Reviews

Adderley & Holliday Piano Duo Project, a compact disc of contemporary duo piano works produced by Albany Records.

  • CD Reviews:  “Adderley and Holliday are both very gifted performers, and their collaboration positively shines throughout the recital. There is sensitivity, rhythmic incisiveness, and palpable joy to their playing, and although I have not heard any of the featured works before I cannot imagine them played better than this…This is a recording that is definitely worth hearing, and I cannot but feel inspired by the pianists’ artistry and conviction."- RaduLelutiu, Fanfare Magazine
  • “The CD is exquisite, dramatic, stimulating and represents the best in American art form. The rhythmic drive, drama and energy generated in ‘Rhythm of the Claves’ is quite compelling.” - Dolores White, Contributing Composer
  • “This delightful duo sets a lovely spirit for this recital with their sweet and easy rendition of Delores White’s luscious 1996 arrangement of the spiritual Rock-a-My Soul. Their deliberate, but firm pacing emphasizes the powerful melodic content of the music…consistently engaging recital, played with real distinction.” - Peter Burwasser, Fanfare Magazine
  • “The CD is magnificent! Adderley and Holliday have done a wonderful job--the William Grant Still is very fine, indeed. Clear, sure tone...the flow is captivating! I love all three William Grant Still piano duo works...it will be a classic.” - Judith Anne Still, Daughter of William Grant Still
  • “Collaborative pianists Meisha Adderley and Stacey Holliday explore their African-American heritage on this disc of fascinating music by African-American composers. The highlight of the disc is a set of arrangements for two pianos of three pieces by the great William Grant Still. I can’t imagine why more pianists don’t tackle this piece. It works beautifully on piano, with its imaginative rhythms and accompaniment figures…There is a lot to love about this disc, and a lot of music you do not hear nearly enough.” - M.K.G., Buffalo News
  • “The Dolores White pieces on Meisha Adderley and Stacey Holliday’s piano duo album are short, simple, and listenable. The William Grant Still works have more substance, but are unsurprising yet also simple and fun. Smith’s Mirrors is quite different, with a repetitive, minimalist-influenced texture at its opening that breaks down, and is notable for its contrast with the other works on the album—it sounds more like contemporary concert music. Keeping it in the family, the Adderley work that closes the album returns to the tone set by the first two composers.”  - American Record Guide
